A Trial Lawyer You Can Trust

What Are Collaborative Justice Courts?

In California, collaborative justice courts are alternative courts that often serve a specific population, such as veterans, juveniles and the mentally ill, just to name a few. The purpose of these courts is to provide both supervision by the judicial system and rehabilitation programs to solve specific problems, like domestic violence, drug addiction or drunk driving. If you are facing criminal charges, one of these options may be able to help you.

At the Law Offices of Derek P. Wisehart, our lawyer has up-to-date knowledge of all of these options. He is a criminal law specialist certified by The State Bar of California and has over 20 years of experience. He has the knowledge to advise you whether one of these courts may be right for you.

Attorney Wisehart is widely considered one of the Central Valley’s premier trial lawyers not only by his clients but also by his adversaries, his peers, law enforcement officers, and judges and court staff.

What Types Of Specialty Courts Or Alternative Programs Are Available?

Several specialty courts have been utilized in Tulare County to handle specific types of cases. These have included:

  • Drug court There are two drug court programs in our county, one for adults and one for juveniles. The Adult drug court is a jail alternative program run by the probation department. It emphasizes treatment based on the 12-step model. There is also a Juvenile drug court for juveniles in trouble due to drugs or alcohol.
  • Prop 36
  • Veterans court For veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), special veterans courts can be a good way to address criminal charges. We will make sure your rights and interests are paramount in this process.
  • Veterans Diversion
  • Mental health court Since 2009, Tulare County has had a mental health court to handle criminal cases involving people with mental health problems. If the charges you face do not involve violent crime or sex offenses, this may be a viable way to get help for mental health or addiction problems and stay out of jail.

In Tulare County, we also have specialty courts focused on DUIs and domestic violence. Other counties have many other types of courts for specific issues. Depending on where you live, there may be a right program to help you.
