A alleged drunk driver is arrested for causing 5 Visalia crashes

On Behalf of | Nov 13, 2018 | Drunk Driving

A spokesperson for the Visalia Police Department reports that a 72-year-old area resident apparently decided to drive around striking people with his car on Halloween night. He fled the crash scene each and every time. Once he was tracked down, police determined that he was likely drunk at the time he caused the collisions.

The first incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Oct. 31. A concerned motorist reported having seen the driver of Chevrolet Silverado crash into a mailbox along the 1700 block of South Garden Street. The motorist apparently didn’t get out of his truck to survey the damage, but instead, kept driving.

He then reportedly drove to the intersection of Garden and Walnut and struck another driver’s vehicle there.

The man then proceeded to the intersection of Ben Maddox Way and Tulare Avenue where he crashed into multiple vehicles. He once again didn’t make any effort to stop to check on the other motorists or survey the damage to any of the cars.

After causing that multivehicle crash, the man then continued down Ben Maddox in the direction of Main Street. There he struck and injured a motorcyclist.

He didn’t stop there, though. He proceeded to the intersection of Ferguson Avenue and Ben Maddox Way where he collided into a few additional cars, injuring some motorists. The only thing that stopped him was that he soon thereafter collided with a wall.

At least two of the motorists who were injured reported only having minor injuries.

Officers arriving at the final crash scene took the man into custody. He was booked into jail on a felony driving under the influence (DUI) charge as well as several hit-and-run counts.

If you’re charged with drunk driving, then it can automatically result in your driver’s license being suspended and fines being assessed. If you’re convicted of the crime, especially an aggravated offense, you may face jail time as well. A Visalia drunk driving attorney can advise you of the penalties that you’re facing in your case.
