There are many types of specialty courts

While many people believe that the court system is "one size fits all," this isn't typically the case in today's day and age.

In Tulare County, for example, there are several specialty courts that are staffed with handling specific types of cases. These include the following:

-- Veteran's court. This is designated for veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and have been charged with a crime.

-- Drug court. This is typically broken down into two categories: drug court for juveniles and drug court for adults. For example, the probation department manages the adult drug court, with it giving people the opportunity to avoid jail time by taking part in a 12-step program.

-- Mental health court. This court takes on criminal cases involving people who have a mental health condition. If the charges are unrelated to a sex offense or violent crime, this type of court is often the best way to avoid jail time and get help for your problem.

If you or a loved one has been charged with any type of crime, it's important to learn more about the specialty courts that are in place.

At our law firm, we know the ins and outs of each type of specialty court. It's our job to help you understand your rights, and to make sure your case moves forward in the appropriate manner.

Any crime is a serious crime, but there are steps you can take to better protect your rights and help you put this difficult time in the past as quickly and efficiently as possible.
